A little about me

Hi, I'm Catherine

I'm a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist, working from The Clifton Practice in Bristol.

I specialise in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. It's very much about taking small steps to make changes that allow us to lead our lives in the way that we choose, without feeling hampered by difficulties of the past. We work together in a welcoming, non-judgemental space, noticing what is already working, setting practical goals, and building momentum session by session.

Alongside my hypnotherapy work, I have over twenty years' experience in education as a teacher and department lead, with a decade specialising in trauma-informed support for young people and their families.

More about my approach

Kind words

What clients say

I am very grateful to Catherine and would highly recommend her services. I feel in a much better place than before seeing Catherine for therapy. I was having feelings of total overwhelm and paralysis, resulting in crying and feelings of hopelessness. I am really glad to say that I don't experience those same feelings on a regular basis to the same degree since my sessions with her. I feel my general mood is better and I am kinder to myself, which is making space for me to be more productive. Rather than feeling that things are getting worse and out of my control, I now feel that I am making progress in my life and that things are improving and possible.

In the sessions she was very kind and patient. She explained how the process works, which I found very interesting and helpful. She gave me space to talk about my problems whilst helping me to focus on the positives and plan how I could move forward. I never felt rushed and she always had time to listen, answer my questions and explore things.

The session would end with a relaxation exercise, in which she would talk me through a visualisation, but there was no pressure to actually listen or visualise, resulting in a really deep relaxation. I found her voice calming and soothing and I felt very safe. She gave me a recording of the relaxation exercise, which I listened to every night, and still do. It helps me get to sleep and I believe contributes to my wellbeing. Each session had a similar pattern. I can't thank Catherine enough.

When I first started working with Catherine, I was in a difficult place with anxiety after losing my job and going through a long period of instability. Over eight sessions, her blend of clear explanations about how the brain processes stress, weekly check-ins, and hypnotherapy has made a huge difference to my day-to-day life.

I feel more in control and able to do things that once felt overwhelming. Catherine's reassuring, friendly and person-centred approach put me at ease straight away, and I now genuinely look forward to our sessions. The hypnotherapy itself feels like a mini holiday for the mind, deeply relaxing, calming and grounding. The recording Catherine shared has been a lifeline in stressful moments.

— Joe McQueen, anxiety support

Catherine's open and friendly nature created a relaxed atmosphere and made communication easy from the very start. Everything around the sessions was clear and professional, which helped me feel confident about the process.

The trance sections were the very best part for me. I found the tone of Catherine's voice really calming. The guided relaxations were delivered with beautiful clarity and a steady, soothing rhythm and pace.

I came to hypnotherapy during a low patch and left feeling more positive and uplifted. Thank you so much for your time and energy, Catherine.

I had begun the process of giving up smoking a few times and was ready to take the final step. I was recommended to Catherine by a friend and was apprehensive about the process. After an initial conversation with Catherine, my mind was put at ease and I became excited for the session ahead.

Catherine's ability to listen and tailor her work to you specifically is excellent. Her knowledge of the brain is impressive and extremely helpful in understanding how and why our minds work for and against us. She guided me through the process with care and it was really enjoyable.

Without exaggeration, Catherine has helped to extend my life. My family and I are forever grateful. I look forward to facing more challenges with her support in future. Thank you so much.

— Tom Mattey, stop smoking

It works! I was sceptical about hypnotherapy before I met with Catherine and had never considered it as a way to stop smoking. After a lifetime of smoking, I was desperate to stop and willing to try anything.

Catherine was amazing. The session was nothing like I had imagined. She made me feel comfortable, safe and listened to. I have been a non-smoker from that day, nearly eight months on, and every day I am grateful. I don't miss it or crave it. Yay!

— Izzy Liney, stop smoking
